If words coming from the Federal Government are anything to go by, non governmental and international agencies supporting the Ministry of Education shall continue to receive the necessary support for excellence.
This revelation was made by the Minister of State for Education, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah when the project team of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) program paid a courtesy visit to the ministry.
The AGILE project is a 5-year initiative of the FG, supported by the World Bank to the tune of 500 million dollars to improve education opportunities for adolescent girls between the ages of 10 to 20 years in selected states in the country.
Receiving the implementation team on behalf of the education ministry, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah said that part of the focus of the President Muhamadu Buhari administration is to give necessary support to non governmental organizations and international agencies rendering assistance to the education sector.
According to Opiah who represented the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, while receiving the AGILE team, disclosed that partnership with agencies supporting the Ministry of Education has been fruitful over the years warranting government’s backing.
He said that in line with the desire of the Buhari administration, the ministry will continue to partner and work with the agencies involved in furthering education sector in the country to enable more positive results.
While appreciating the efforts of those in charge of the AGILE project since inception, the Minister of State for Education requested them to expand their operational boundaries and capture other parts of the country to ensure Nigerians, irrespective of socio cultural background have a feel of the project that has the backing of World Bank. He emphasised that the spread of the AGILE project to more states from different geopolitical locations would make all Nigerians have a feel of the program..
The AGILE project (2020-2025), according to the officials is to be implemented through three major components of creating safe and accessible learning spaces, fostering an enabling environment for girls and project management and system strenghtening.
The implementing states are Borno, Ekiti, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi and Plateau.
