Imo Guber: Hope Uzodimma Wins Obowo LGA

… As Chike Okafor displays a blend of intentional capacity borne out of gratitude to a benefactor

Since the return Civil rule, in 1999, Obowo Local Government Area was known to be a core stronghold of PDP, as the party held sway, reigned supreme and called the shots, when it comes to who gets what in the politics of the area.

As an area that prides itself as home to the most famous Governor of the old Imo State, Late Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe, PhD, Obowo has continued to be relevant in the scheme of things, in Imo State, but no force was able to break the firm grip that PDP had on the Local Government, until 2015, when a young Banker and State exchequer, Chike Okafor, arrived at the scene and altered the old order.

He showed up on a new platform, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and when no one else gave him a chance, he went to win elections twice, on a row, between 2015 and 2019, to represent the Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, before the emergence of Sen. Hope Uzodimma, as the State Governor, in January 2020.

His sterling performance and representative capacity endeared him to the Governor who mobilised the party structure to ensure he gets a third shot at the legislative seat, and as they say, the rest is history.

Those who saw Hon. Chike Okafor during the Governorship Campaigns, and how he put in all the efforts he can muster, would think he was on the ballot, but he was rather showing gratitude to a benefactor, the Governor.

Results from polling unit, Booth 015, Umuomukwu Village Square, Umuokeh, where APC garnered 927 votes, leaving LP and AA trailing with 19 and 15 votes, respectively, while PDP got 12 votes, shows his people also appreciate the Governor.

His Okenalogho Ward also stood out, with a total of 7,959 votes out of the overall votes from the LGA, which stood at 17,514.

Indeed, there is no disputing his intentional capacity and rare show of gratitude, even as he shoved aside his Appeal Court victory, preferring, rather to see off the election of Gov. Hope Uzodimma, before proceeding for his inauguration, into the 10th National Assembly.
