Imo State Launches School Protection Squad (SPS) to Enhance School Safety

Imo State has taken a significant step towards enhancing the safety and security of its educational institutions with the launch of the School Protection Squad (SPS).

Led by Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the initiative aims to ensure a secure learning environment for students, teachers, and staff across the state.

The SPS, comprising over one hundred well-trained personnel, is equipped with advanced crime-fighting technologies including patrol vehicles, motorcycles, bulletproof vests, smoke gunners, and state-of-the-art alarm systems.

This deployment underscores the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to the Safer School Programme nationwide.

The launch ceremony, held at City Secondary School, Owerri, was attended by key stakeholders including the Executive Governor of Imo State, represented by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, Professor John Cliff Nwadike, and other education officials.

CP Danjuma emphasized the squad’s dedication and professionalism, urging residents to support their efforts in securing schools.

Professor Nwadike commended the initiative, highlighting its crucial role in bolstering school safety.

He praised CP Danjuma’s proactive measures in combating crime and urged for sustained deployment of SPS operatives, particularly in rural areas.

The event was met with enthusiasm from teachers and students who pledged their commitment to collaborate with the police in ensuring security both within schools and their surrounding communities.
