… As LGA leaders set the tone for the elections
As the elections into the councillorship and chairman positions, in Imo State, gets under way, the ruling party in the State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has met, across the LGAs to forge a common front.
The Obowo Local Government chapter of the party, met on Sunday 30th June 2024, the council hall, in Otoko, in a meeting presided by Lady Matilda Iroh.
In her speech, Lady Matilda Iroh, in her address to the gathering stated that the meeting, as directed by the State leadership of the party, had only one agenda, which is Local Government elections. She thanked Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor for providing the resources and enablement for the meeting.
The Sole Administrator of the Council,Barr Obioma Ehirim informed the people that the election date draws near and that there’s no anointed candidate, as the party is providing a level playing ground for all aspirants.
A retired police commissioner, Chief Francis Ihechere and former Commissioner for Health Dr. Godrick Anosike reiterated the need to recognise party leadership as naturally established, hierarchically, from the highest political office holder, down to the other members.
The member Representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor,PhD declared that the meeting is the most attended, in a long time, in terms of the quality of leaders that showed up for the meeting. He opined that Obowo APC is obviously ready to take back their party, which is in line with the resolve of the Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, to return the party to the real owners, the people.
Hon. Chike Okafor urged the party at the various wards to ensure a hitch process of producing the people’s choices, as candidates for councillorship. He went further to announce that he will buy forms for all the councillorship candidates who emerge through consensus arrangements,and would also provide funds for their consultations and campaigns to ensure the party clinches the 10 wards of Obowo in the election.
This, he said, will ensure that the party goes into the election with little or no acrimonious situations.
Other leaders of the party that spoke include Hon Dr. Japhet Azubuine, Prince Chidi Nwoke,the Chairman of chairmen, among ward Chairmen and a host of others.
