Dr. Mrs Basilia Igbokwe Officially Presented as the 9th Substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri

On September 24, 2024, a wave of jubilation swept through the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, as Dr. Mrs Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe was officially presented and inaugurated as the institution’s 9th Substantive Rector.

The event saw a remarkable turnout from students, staff, and management, all eager to witness this historic occasion.

Asides the fact that staff and students thronged the Airport to receive her, there was also gridlock on the Naze stretch of the road leading to the institution, as staff and students lined up from Naze junction through the Polytechnic junction and into the school compound. The institution’s 1,000-capacity auditorium was filled and overflowing, reflecting the excitement and support from the polytechnic community.

Attendees extended their warm congratulations to the newly appointed Rector, celebrating her ascent to this prestigious role.

The ceremony commenced with an opening prayer by Ven. Barr. Ugochukwu Ekeocha, followed by a traditional presentation of kola nuts to the dignitaries by the traditional ruler from Umudibia Nekede, and some other traditional rulers within the locales in Owerri West LGA.

The event highlighted the significance of community ties and support for the institution.

Dr. Sir Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, Chairman of the 15th Governing Council, formally recognized Dr. Mrs. Igbokwe and charged her with the responsibilities of her new position.

In his address, he hailed her appointment as a pivotal development for the future of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, emphasizing the potential for growth and progress under her leadership.

In her inaugural speech, Dr. Mrs. Igbokwe expressed profound gratitude for her academic elevation and committed herself to enhancing the institution’s academic standards.

She acknowledged the support she received from various individuals who contributed to her success and called for unity and peace within the polytechnic community.

The event was marked by vibrant cultural displays, including masquerade performances and traditional dances, adding a festive atmosphere to the proceedings.

The ceremony was graced by notable Imo sons and daughters from across Nigeria, all gathered to honor the new Rector and celebrate a promising new academic chapter for Federal Polytechnic Nekede.
