In a meeting held on 29th April, 2025, an EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING OF OWERRI CLUB sacked Chief Charles Okeke led Management and elected Ezinwa Onyebuchi Obinwa as Chairman.

RESOLUTION

  1. Whereas not less than “30” financial members of the Club wrote, in accordance with Owerri Club Rules, Rule 17(cii) page 31, requesting the Management Committee to summon an Extraordinary General Meeting where audited accounts of the financial activities of the club among other statutorily mandatory requirements will be discussed,
  2. Whereas this statutory meeting requirement, which ought to be convened twice a year, and four times during a two-year tenure, was not adhered to and treated with utter disdain by the Management Committee of the Club,
  3. Whereas the refusal of the Management Committee to summon the meeting as demanded is seen as a deliberate attempt to frustrate members’ ernest desire to seek explanations for the Management Committee’s wanton and gross abuse of the Club Rules, and
  4. Whereas at least 20, indeed 24, members, in accordance with Rule 17 (cii) page 31, have invoked their right to convene and have convened the meeting after twenty one (21) days of the demand being served on the Management Committee as provided, the Management Committee refusing to call the meeting as demanded, do hereby make the following resolutions:
  5. That the Charles Okeke-led Management Committee is hereby dissolved effective immediately
  6. That a Caretaker Committee to run the Club for *three months , in the first instance, is hereby constituted as follows…
    A) Onyebuchi Obinwa – Chairman
    B) Chief Chidi Anyaso – Member
    C) Emeka Onyema – Member
    D) Chief Emma Ebili – Member
    E) Ik Ogbonna – Secretary
  7. Terms of Reference are as follows:
    *Review and ratification of the revised Owerri Club Rules.
    *Audit club account.
    *Audit management activities of immediate past Management Committee.
    *Conduct credible elections.

That these resolutions were reached for the following reasons:

  1. To preserve the Club from disintegration.
  2. To ensure respect for the Club apex authority – The Registered Trustees of the Club, whose restorative resolutions, in the light of the myriads of problems bedevilling the club in recent times, conveyed to the erstwhile Management Committee, were totally disregarded.
  3. To ensure strict adherence to the Owerri Club Rules.
  4. To ensure probity and accountability are restored in the management of Owerri Club.
  5. To bring back peace to the club, and re-invent the spirit of camaraderie and joyful conviviality among members.
