Imo State Government Set To Embark On Construction Of Ultra Modern Iirs Headquarters In Owerri
The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) is set to receive a major infrastructural boost, as construction begins on a brand-new, state-of-the-art head office in Owerri. The project, initiated under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, reflects a strategic move to enhance revenue administration and improve service delivery across the state.

Craneburg Construction Company, known for its portfolio of landmark projects within Imo and beyond, has officially commenced work on the site, signaling the start of what is expected to be a transformative development for the state’s revenue agency.

The new IIRS headquarters is designed to meet global standards, offering a modern work environment equipped with advanced facilities to support seamless tax operations. Positioned in the heart of Owerri, the facility will house critical departments and create a more accessible, efficient interface between the agency and taxpayers.

According to the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice Okoye, the project is more than just a building. “It represents a new era for tax administration in Imo State. This headquarters will enhance our capacity, promote accountability, and drive a culture of voluntary tax compliance,” he noted.

Craneburg’s involvement brings confidence in the quality and pace of execution, given the company’s success with other high-impact infrastructure works in the state, including the Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads. The construction firm has already mobilized equipment and personnel to the site, with work progressing as scheduled.
The Uzodimma-led government has consistently prioritized infrastructure development as a key enabler of economic growth. The IIRS office project is in line with this vision—serving not only as a functional workspace but also as a symbol of modernization and reform in public revenue management.
Once completed, the new headquarters is expected to boost staff morale, strengthen institutional efficiency, and contribute significantly to Imo State’s drive to expand its internally generated revenue base.
