ISOPADEC MD Hosts Alma Mater Alumni, Pledges Support For Revitalization Of Awo- Omamma School
The Managing Director of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Chief Austin Onyedebelu, recently played host to members of the Alumni Association of Comprehensive Secondary School, Awo-Omamma, who paid him a courtesy visit to celebrate his appointment and seek his support in restoring the lost glory of their alma mater.

The ISOPADEC MD, Chief Onyedebelu, an alumnus of the Class of 1980, expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the show of solidarity from his fellow alumni. He thanked Governor Uzodimma for the opportunity to serve and reiterated his commitment to the administration’s inclusive development agenda.

He also took a moment to commend the efforts of the Class of 1980 in sustaining the school through challenging times, describing their role as pivotal to the institution’s survival. He lamented the unfortunate incident in which the school lost over 70% of its landmass and more than 90% of its infrastructure under mysterious circumstances—an event that nearly erased its presence.
“The resilience shown by the Class of 1980 is commendable. They practically jump-started the school from scratch at a time when the school was on the verge of becoming a university. It’s painful to reflect on what could have been, but even more inspiring to see what committed individuals have been able to salvage,” Chief Onyedebelu noted.
He assured the alumni of his willingness to partner with them on projects that would uplift the school and enhance its capacity to deliver quality education.
“As a proud alumnus, I share in your passion and commitment. Together, we can restore Awo-Omamma Comprehensive to the standard we all remember and even better,” he added.
Speaking earlier, the alumni congratulated Chief Onyedebelu on his elevation to a key government position and commended the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma for its visible strides in infrastructure development across the state. They particularly lauded the successful rehabilitation of the Ekemele Road, which had long posed challenges to commuters, as well as the reconstruction of the DSS road and other major projects that are positively impacting local communities.
The delegation also expressed concern over the deteriorating state of their former school and called for collaborative efforts to improve infrastructure and academic standards in line with the state government’s renewed focus on education and youth empowerment.
The meeting ended with a renewed sense of purpose, as both parties pledged continued collaboration in advancing educational and community development in Awo-Omamma and beyond.
