Rep Munachim Alozie Submits Petition Against Aba Power Over Exorbitant Billing

The Member Representing Osisioma/Obingwa/Igwunagbo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Munachim Ikechi Alozie, has submitted a formal petition against Aba Power Electric Limited over what he described as extortionate and exorbitant estimated electricity bills imposed on residents of Aba, Abia State.

Presenting the petition on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Hon. Alozie decried the persistent exploitation of electricity consumers in Aba, citing a 200% increase in billing rates by Aba Power, which he noted is significantly higher than what is charged by other Distribution Companies (DISCOs) across Nigeria.

The lawmaker urged the House to compel the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to mandate Aba Power to align its billing system with national standards applied by other DISCOs.

Furthermore, he called on the House Committee on Public Petitions to embark on a fact-finding mission to Aba, and to organize a town hall meeting between electricity consumers and the management of Aba Power Electric Limited, to address lingering concerns and promote transparency in service delivery.
