Francis Ndimkoha: Summary of my journey to PhD

Literature and The Environment…

I have always been fascinated about the ecological theme, in literary studies, otherwise called Eco-criticism, and I am particularly perplexed about the Niger Delta reality.

With Prof. Sam Onuigbo who though retired, showed up, for me, on my big day.

If you look at the map of Nigeria, you’ll see how the rest of the country sits, on the Niger Delta, literally, and farts it dizzy, with crude flare. – Chris Onyema.

My interest led me, in my Master’s Degree, to research on Environmental Degradation and the Burden of Natural Resources, in Tanure Ojaide’s Waiting for the Hatching of the Cockrell and Chris Onyema’s Crude Waves of the Delta.

With the HOD, Prof. S.U.N Okohe-Ugwi and the external Examiner, Prof. Ignatius Chukwuma, from Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State.

Yet undone, I proceeded, to study Psychological Violence in Isidore Okpewho’s Tides, Kaine Gary’s Yellow -Yellow and Helon Habila’s Oil on Water, in my Doctoral thesis. This study was presented today.

With my classmates, Dr. Onyenwa Kennedy and Dr. Reuben Onyeishi.

These studies underscore how Oil, which is a blessing to the rest of Nigeria, is a source of untold trauma, to the Niger Delta and her people.

Let me not bore you further.
But we need to pay attention to the crude crusted stench of oil-raping going on, in the Niger Delta.

I appreciate all who supported, assisted and motivated the conclusion of this study.

To God 🙏 be the Glory 💪
