Big move for Nigeria’s aviation industry in far away US
United Nigeria Airlines, owned by Obiora Okonkwo, has signed a landmark deal with U.S.-based Southwest Airlines to acquire six Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The agreement, sealed at Southwest’s Dallas headquarters, goes beyond fleet expansion. It also includes a long-term technical partnership covering maintenance support and crew training.
The new aircraft will boost United Nigeria’s capacity, open up more routes, and strengthen its position as a regional player.
Okonkwo says this step will expand travel options for Nigerians and support the country’s wider economic goals through tourism, trade, and job creation.
