Perspectives As President Tinubu visits Imo
Anything you do, people will complain.
Exactly, 4 years ago, in the month of September, 2021, Gov. Hope Uzodimma was host to President Buhari, as he came to commission, among other projects, the first phase of the Owrrri – Okigwe road.
Naysayers were sure, by then, that the commissioning would mark the end or work on that very important economic road, in State. They said, once the President commission the first phase, Gov. Hope Uzodimma would abandon the project.
How wrong they were!
The road was completed the following year, and commissioned by the same President Buhari. The wife 55km dual carriage road stands, till date, as a testament of a Governor’s resilience, even in the face insecurity scare, in that part of the State, at the time, work went on. Even when an expatriate engineer, on sight, was kidnapped, work went on, while the Governor charged the security agencies to rescue the man, alive and in one piece. They did.
Those heady years, once the President is coming, the owners of the bush, will mount the radio and declare Sit At Home, ordering people, on the pain of death to desist from turning up to welcome the President. People gladly obeyed, for days, on end. Maybe because the order was given by their own people.
Today, President Tinubu visits Imo State, to, among other projects, commission another important economic road in State, the Owerri – Umuahia road, and people are complaining that roads are closed to welcome the President.
I guess this complain is because the order didn’t come from the bush, as usual, where the threat to life goes with the order.
Otherwise, who doesn’t know, it is standard protocol, anywhere, in the world, to control human and vehicular movement, when the Head of State visits!
Welcome to Imo State, Mr. President.
