University Announces New Convocation Fees, After protest by Students
The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Professor Zeb Obipi, says the recent increase in convocation fees was aimed at helping the university meet its financial obligations and run effectively.

Professor Obipi, who made this known in an interview with our correspondent, said that the students’ union leadership was duly consulted before the decision was made.
Recall that the fees were initially increased to N97,000 for first degree graduates, N145,000 for master’s, and N220,000 for doctorate degree graduates. But following protests from parents and civil society groups, the University Management held another meeting with the students’ union, and the fees were reviewed downward to N60,000, N68,000, N125,000, and N210,000, respectively.
