By Ekeh Uzoma
When a government begins to think beyond the now, when it starts to invest not only in roads and bridges but in brains and bandwidth, that is the mark of futuristic leadership.

That is exactly what the Hope Uzodimma administration is doing with the SkillUp Imo programme, a quiet revolution that is transforming ordinary young people into global digital citizens.
Started in May 2023, SkillUp Imo has already distributed 30,000 laptops and gadgets under the SKILL UP IMO initiative.

But this is not just about gadgets, it is about giving Imo youths the digital tools to compete anywhere in the world. From cybersecurity to software development, AI to blockchain, fintech to digital marketing, young men and women from across the 27 LGAs are being trained for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Today, more than 5,000 SkillUp Imo alumni have secured REMOTE jobs and gigs on platforms like Technosphere, while others now work with big names such as Konga, Adminting, Silicon Valley firms, Zinox, and 421 Films. About 40% of trainees have become digital entrepreneurs, launching startups and creating jobs for others. FACT CHECK.

The programme’s partnerships with Microsoft, CISCO, and the European DIGITAL SME Alliance open international doors for our people, from online collaborations to cross-border employment. That’s not just empowerment; that’s economic diplomacy through technology.
This COHORT 3 were admitted sometime in May and today graduants while cohort 3B and cohort 4 gets ready for intensive training and graduation too.
What makes SkillUp Imo different is not just its success rate but its spirit. It has quietly reduced youth restiveness, replaced despair with hope, and replaced street corners with keyboards.

In every sense, it has created a new Imo, one where the youth see the internet not just as entertainment, but as enterprise.
As the State unveils the MyImoApp, another innovation from this digital movement, it becomes clear: the Uzodimma administration is not just building infrastructure; it is building human capacity, the greatest infrastructure of all.
Imo is no longer waiting for the future. The future has already logged in.
