Ngwoma Obube Stool: Court Restrains Alex Mbata’s Man Chinedu Ekeocha From Parading Himself As Eze, As Suit Against Onukogu Royal Family Backfires

The Imo State High Court of Owerri North Judicial Division sitting at Uratta, presided over by Hon Justice L.C Alinnor had on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 issued an Order restraining the parties involved in the Ngwoma Obube Ezeship tussle from presenting themselves to the Executive Governor of Imo State for recognition as the Eze of the Autonomous Community.

At the centre of the unfolding drama and judicial pronouncement was Mr Chinedu Ekeocha the plaintiff who first rushed to the High Court to secure an interlocutory injunction to stop the recognition of the heir apparent to Ngwoma Obube Ezeship throne and the Eze elect from the hereditary Onukogu Royal Dynasty Crown Prince Kemakolam Onukogu.

Mr Ekeocha who has been laying claim to the throne on the basis of a purported selection process had sought the Court to restrain the Crown Prince of Ngwoma Obube Kingdom from being recognised as the traditional ruler of the Community but when the matter came up as motion on notice for interlocutory injunction and after appearances of Dr C.A Nnawuchi (SAN) with I.K Ujah Counsel for the plaintiff(Chinedu Ekeocha) and Prince B.O Amukamara with M.C Njezi as Counsel to the defendants(Onukogus), the learned silt, Nnawuchi SAN argued his application for the injunction which was opposed by B.O Amukamara via a counter affidavit of 30th September,2025 and the Court ordered that in view of the fact that the matter was already pending, the parties were therefore ordered to maintain the status quo without any of the parties presenting himself to the 13th defendant(Executive Governor) for recognition.

It also ordered to restrain the 13th defendant (Executive Governor) from according recognition to either the 1st defendant or the plaintiff as the Traditional Ruler of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community, Owerri North LGA, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

The Honourable Court went further for the sake of emphasis and ordered that neither the 1st defendant nor plaintiff should hold himself out as the Eze of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community pending the determination of the suit and adjourned for accelerated hearing.

The implication being that the plaintiff whose intention was to use interlocutory injunction to restrain Crown Prince Kemakolam Onukogu while he goes about parading himself unlawfully as the Eze of Ngwoma Obube has rather got himself entangled and also stopped by the Court from parading himself hence he who goes to equity must go with a clean hand
