By Francis Ndimkoha
The remains of Hon. Chief Nkenna Nzeruo, member for Oru-East State Constituency (2015 – 2019), graced the hallowed chambers of the Imo State House of Assembly, for the last time, on 5th January 2026.

In a session presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, the present and past members of State Assembly paid tribute, in turns, to the departed legislator.

Chief among his virtues, on the lips of almost of the members was his dogged spirit and his penchant for confronting injustice, even at his own detriment. Indeed, Hon. Barr. Greg Okemmili (former Oru-East Rep), Hon. Mrs. Ngozi S M Obiefule (former Isu Rep), Hon. Engr. Agabige Uche Francis (incumbent Orsu Rep) and Hon. Barr. Lugard Osuji (former Owerri Municipal Rep), among others acknowledged his fight for justice, which earned him suspension for about 10 months, without salary.

The Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu (Nwangele Rep), Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri (Current Oru-East Rep) and Rt. Hon. Dr. Acho Ihim (former Speaker), all extolled the virtues of the departed legislator, while condoling and encouraging the family left behind to endeavour to fill the void and sustain the niche he carved. Hon. Dom. Hon Dominic Ezerioha (current Oru-West Rep) confessed that during his own suspension, in the current house, he received cash support from Hon. Nkenna Nzeruo who was fighting for his life, and battling with his health.

The session ended after the House observed the casket, by marching round it, before it was moved out of the Assembly complex.

Present at the session were, the immediate family including his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Nzeruo and children, the Burial committee chairman, Sir White Egbuladike Izuawuba, Hon. Dr. Ikechukwu Ekeh, Hon. Godson Chike Ukachukwu , Oru-East Vice Chairman, Hon. Casmir Ogbenna Mr. Uche Nwoke, Francis Ndimkoha, among others.

Hon. Nkenna Nzeruo is slated for burial on 6th January 2026, in his Home town, Awo-Omamma, Oru-East, Imo State.
