Alvan Ikoku Federal University Matriculates 2,121, VC Charges Students on Character and Integrity

Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, took a significant step in its institutional evolution on Thursday, 19th February, 2026, formally admitting 2,121 freshmen during its second matriculation ceremony.

The colourful and historic event, held at the University Pavilion, saw 2,066 Bachelor’s degree students and 55 Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) candidates take the matriculation oath, marking their formal entry into the academic community.

In her matriculation address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi, revealed that students now have access to 45 degree programmes across six faculties. This expansion having been achieved immediately following her appointment in July 2025.

“Success is not a miracle; it is a daily habit,” Prof. Lemchi told the matriculants. “You build it by attending every lecture and by studying in the library long before an exam arrives.”

The Vice-Chancellor was quick to draw a line on discipline, warning that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward social vices. She specifically highlighted the “darkness of cultism,” drug abuse, and cyber fraud as hollow promises that lead only to ruin. On academic integrity, she was unequivocal: “Examination malpractice is a complete ‘No, No.’ If you are caught, you will be expelled.”

Highlighting recent infrastructural gains, the VC noted that the university had just completed its most significant hostel upgrade in over 15 years. This, she explained, was achieved through the judicious use of TETFund interventionist funds, ensuring that students now have access to modern and comfortable accommodations.
