In Nigeria’s political landscape, few leaders have left as distinct a mark on Education as His Excellency Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Known for his achievements as governor of Abia state (1999 -2007) and now as senator representing Abia North, kalu’s records reflects a sustained commitment to human capital development through Education.
When Orji Uzor Kalu took office in 1999, Abia state’s education system was in dire need of revitalisation, His Administration immediately embarked on transformative reforms that expanded access, improved quality and uplifted teacher morale.
TOTALLY FREE AND SUBSIDIZED EDUCATION.
Introduced free education from primary to secondary levels, ensuring that children from all backgrounds could attend school
Paid exam fees (JSCE AND WAEC) for public school students.
Subsidized tuition at Abia state university, easing financial burdens for thousands of families.
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT.
Renovated numerous schools and constructed so many new classrooms across the state.( Infact most of the schools he is renovating or has renovated across Abia North now as a Senator were built or either reconstructed by him over 20 years ago as governor)
supplied over 100,000 desks, chairs, and instructional materials to public schools.
upgraded facilities at Abia state university, including new hostels and student buses.
Provision of free students buses for pupils and students at primary and secondary level.

Instituted timely salary payments, restoring morale among educators
Introduced curriculum updates, teachers training and re-training.

2.LEGISLATIVE AND CONSTITUENCY INTERVENTIONS AS SENATOR FOR ABIA NORTH( 2019-PRESENT)
As senator, Orji Uzor Kalu has carried his Educational passion to the federal level, combining legislative advocacy with tangible grassroots development.
Facilitated Construction and rehabilitation of over 200 schools, including about 100 new schools across the length and breadth of Abia North, a record setting feat for any legislature.
The schools which cuts across the five Local governments Areas of Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi of Abia North are too numerous to mention, in 2024 alone he facilitated the Construction and rehabilitation of About 100 schools across Abia North, the most in a fiscal year by any legislature in one fiscal year.
Supplied and Distributed free Educational materials, including various textbooks, school bags etc to almost all the public schools in Abia North from 2020 til date.

Awarded scholarships to numerous Nigerian students through his OUK foundation with so many of them international students pursuing degrees in medicine, management and technology etc
Supported youth skill development initiatives to bridge the Education to Employment gap.
Promoted Vocational training as a sustainable tool for Job creation and self reliance, example is the Free Cinematography seminar for youths organized by him were participants were empowered with free laptops, photo cameras etc.
