As part of proactive measures to enable a perfect education system in Nigeria, the federal government has re-emphasized on the practice of national policies that would enhance better standard.
Minister of State for Education, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah made the disclosure during the UNESCO World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education Development Program in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The Minister who led the African delegation to the program averred that the Federal Government of Nigeria is “committed to building, improving and delivering quality, functional and comprehensive early childhood care education and development system that places children learning and development outcomes at the core of it’s work.
“We shall continue to ensure that all Nigeria’s children from early years have wholistic development opportunities to give them the best start to prepare them for the world and serve the future they deserve”
Rt Hon Opiah who was among the panel of discussants during the session further disclosed that Nigeria has in place wholistic national policies on Education and Integrated Early Childhood Development and a government-led National World Conference on Early Childhood Care Education, (CECCE) Nigeria, working group with local and international partners striving to expand, universalize and integrate interventions on early childhood development for effective implementation and coordination of programs targeting children ages 0-5
years which includes
areas of health, nutrition and child protection; and the one year free and compulsory pre-primary education policy and programs.
While highlighting on what the Buhari administration has done in this regard, the minister regretted that some of Nigeria’s children in these early childhood years are not on track developmentally due to issues of poverty, poor nutrition and inadequate nurturing care.
