Man United appoint Ruud Van Nistelrooy as interim manager
Following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, former Man United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim manager.
Nistelrooy was the assistant of the just-binned coach and will be at the dugout till a more experienced manager is recruited for the post.
United announced his temporary appointment when the statement for Ten Hag’s sacking was released.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
Former teammate to the Dutchman, Gary Neville believes Nistelrooy can fix the broken United and can save the struggling team within his short stint.
Neville told Sky Sports: “He can set the team up differently. That’s something that could happen, he could make the make-up of the team slightly different.
“But he’s been on the bench with Erik ten Hag so I’d be amazed if there was something drastic in the next few games.
“I believe that ultimately there needs to be quite a lot of work done with those players because at this moment in time, they are desperately struggling.
