
Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo Flags off Construction of Umuozu – Abajah

In a significant development for the Umuozu Autonomous community of Nwangele LGA, the long-awaited construction of the Umuozu-Abajah road has officially begun. The project was inaugurated earlier today at a commissioning ceremony attended by key stakeholders, community leaders, and government officials.
The flagoff, which held at Ukwuorji Umuozu, Nwangele today, February 7, 2025 marked a milestone in the efforts to improve infrastructure in the community.
Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo who played a pivotal role in attracting the project, expressed optimism about its impact on the community.
He stated, “This event signifies the beginning of the construction of the Umuozu-Abajah road, and it is our hope that in the coming months, our people will be grateful to the government for this intervention.”
Continuing he noted that his intention as federal lawmaker was to ensure that his office would become a tool to attract all sorts of development for the people especially his home community of Umuozu.
The former member representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency also used the occasion to eulogise the Honourable Minister, Ministry of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, for his instrumental role in ensuring the project’s realization.
Representative of the Ministry, Engr. Timothy Iyamu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to seeing the project through to completion adding that the community should ensure the contractor has a conducive environment to work.
Engr. Iyamu did not fail to charge the contractor to do a credible job noting that a poorly done job will not be tolerated by the Ministry.
Community leaders, including the King of Umuozu Autonomous community, Eze Okechukwu Onyejiuwa, Ohanyere III, praised the initiative and pledged their support for the smooth execution of the project.
Eze Onyejiuwa emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating, “We will ensure that the community remains hospitable and secure, providing the contractor with all the necessary support needed to seamlessly carry out the job.”
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the President General of Umuozu Autonomous Community, Austin Onyeanuforo; Chief Raphael Dike, Head of Chiefs; Sir Dr. Nicholas Uzoma; Chief Eugene Ohamara; Mrs. Ihuoma Obi, Chairperson of the Umuozu Autonomous Community Women’s Wing as well as women and men of the host community. Their presence underscored the collective effort and unity behind the project.
The Umuozu-Abajah road project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and economic activities in the region, bringing relief and development to the local population. As construction progresses, the community remains hopeful and appreciative of the government’s intervention in addressing their infrastructural needs.
