The member representing Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, and Obowo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Hon Chike Okafor PhD, has commenced the next phase of his ongoing capacity building and empowerment, by distributing fishes to fish farmers in his constituency, alongside feed for the fishes.

Recall that from 22nd to 23rd December 2025, Hon. Chike Okafor, Chairman Committee on Nutrition and National Food Security, trained thousands of fish farmers drawn from Ehime Mbano Ihitte Uboma and Obowo Local Government Areas, on fishery technology and management, with the aim of creating better fish farmers to tackle food insecurity.
The training which was in partnership with Federal College of Agriculture Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, had specialists and consultants in the field, educating the farmers on the international best pracrices in fishery management.
The trainees were handed manuals and assured of regular and periodic visit to their individual farms, for assessment.
This January, the next phase of the programme has been activated, and Hon. Chike Okafor has distributed not less than two thousand fishes to each of the selected farms, with at 60 bags of feed, in different specifications, for each of the farms, to enable the farmers tend the fishes for maximum yield.
He has also assured of all necessary assistance throughout the process.
Hon. Chike Okafor believes that the era of gathering constituents and handing then a token, should be phased out and replaced with tangible skills acquisition and capacity building to make the constituents self reliant, as well as productive.
He believes that the success of this effort will not only address food insecurity but also general insecurity as busy youths won’t be available for restiveness.
Hon. Okafor stated that this programme will be expanded, in due course, to accommodate for farmers and liberate more people, while ensuring food security not just in the constituency but across Imo State and Nigeria in General.
