Since its establishment in 1960 as Nigeria’s first indigenous university, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been guided by 16 substantive Vice-Chancellors, each leaving a unique mark on the institution’s journey.
From pioneering academic reforms and expanding research to strengthening infrastructure, global collaborations, and institutional excellence, these distinguished leaders have contributed to making UNN one of Africa’s most respected universities.
Some have completed their earthly assignments and are remembered for their lasting legacies, while others continue to contribute to education and national development.
Today, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the 16th substantive Vice-Chancellor and the first Vice-Chancellor from the Nsukka Cultural Zone, continues the responsibility of steering the Lion’s Den into a new era of innovation, academic excellence, and global relevance.
