
Meet Prof. Remy Uche: The New Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), FUTO
Prof. Remy Uche is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), with nearly three decades of experience in teaching, research, engineering practice, and university administration.
He holds a B.Eng. in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, an M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering (Industrial and Production), and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. He is professionally active and a proud Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FNIMechE), and Nigerian Institution of Industrial Engineers (FNIIndE), among other professional affiliations.
Prof. Uche has served FUTO in several leadership capacities, including Dean, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET); Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Director, Public Procurement Research Centre (PPRC); Acting Director, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO); Acting Dean, Student Affairs Unit; and Member of the 10th Governing Council and Senate of FUTO.
His professional and public service engagements include service on the Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), leadership of a Presidential Visitation Panel, and membership of the Technical Board of the Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesha, an affiliate of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
A distinguished scholar and administrator, Prof. Uche has contributed significantly to engineering education, research, industrial productivity, and institutional development. He was also a key member of the team that secured US$11 million in World Bank funding for the establishment of FUTO’s Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards.
Prof. Remy Uche now serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), FUTO, bringing to the position extensive experience in academic leadership, institutional administration, engineering, and professional service.
