Nigeria, Indonesia Deepen Strategic Partnership, Explore Investment Opportunities In Petroleum Sector
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Ph.D., has reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen its strategic partnership with Indonesia, particularly through increased investment and cooperation in the petroleum and energy sectors.
The Minister stated this while receiving a delegation from the Government of Indonesia, led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Bambang Suharto. He noted that Nigeria’s oil sector remains a competitive destination for investment, offering opportunities for value creation and sustainable long-term returns, irrespective of shifts in global energy dynamics.
According to Lokpobiri, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to harnessing Nigeria’s natural resources in a manner that delivers value to Nigerians while creating an enabling environment for investors through policy clarity, regulatory predictability and improved investment confidence.
“Our objective is to harness Nigeria’s natural resources in the best interest of Nigerians and investors. We are positioning the petroleum sector to attract the capital, technology, and partnerships required to unlock its full potential,” he said.
The Minister welcomed Indonesia’s interest in investing in Nigeria’s petroleum sector and participating in relevant opportunities across the industry, describing the proposed areas of cooperation as mutually beneficial and capable of supporting economic growth and stability. He also invited the Government of Indonesia and Indonesian investors to participate in Nigeria’s forthcoming bid rounds and take advantage of the opportunities they present to enter and invest in the country’s oil sector.
Ambassador Suharto expressed Indonesia’s interest in developing a long-term strategic partnership with Nigeria, particularly in the petroleum and energy sectors.
“Indonesia sees Nigeria as an important strategic partner, and we are interested in expanding our cooperation through investment, technical collaboration, training, and capacity development,” the Ambassador said.
He added that the proposed areas of collaboration would provide opportunities for both countries to deepen their relationship while supporting knowledge transfer and professional development.
Lokpobiri further highlighted the proposed exchange programmes being advanced through the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), describing them as an important platform for strengthening institutional relationships, knowledge sharing and technical capacity.
