Why Senator Orji Kalu Has A Bankable Legislative Track Record And Deserves Re-Election to the Senate

When performance is the yardstick, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s legislative scorecard is bankable, verifiable and unmatched in Abia North.

In the National Assembly, he is not a bench warmer. He is a workhorse. In his first term alone (2019-2023), he sponsored 51 bills and 28 motions – the highest rated among Abia lawmakers and one of the best-performing senators in the country. In the 10th Senate, as at August 2025, he sponsored or co-sponsored 12 of the 18 bills introduced by Abia State senators.

These are not parochial bills. They are national, forward-looking legislations that touch every Nigerian:

  • The Electric Vehicle Transition and Green Mobility Bill to position Nigeria for the future economy
  • The Social Welfare Service Bill to protect the vulnerable
  • The National Food Bank Bill to guarantee food security and create loan opportunities for youths
  • The National Tax Crimes Commission Bill
  • The Federal Polytechnic Abiriba Bill and other education reform bills
  • Bills for concurrent powers on Railway, Armed Forces Service Commission, and Administration of Criminal Justice reform

His competence earned him leadership. Senate Chief Whip (2019-2023), Chairman Senate Committee on Privatization, and the inaugural Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC) – a strategic position overseeing the economic revitalization of the entire South East. He was also named Chairman of an 18-member Ad-hoc Committee on Safe Schools Initiative.

But Kalu matches legislative brilliance with constituency delivery. His representation is felt in all 103 wards of Abia North:

  • Over 50 road projects constructed across Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi
  • Over 200 schools built and rehabilitated, with 100 in 2024 alone – a record for any legislature
  • School desks, textbooks, bags, uniforms and STEM materials supplied to almost all public schools
  • Over 1,000 cassava processing machines, fertilizers, rice seedlings, sewing machines, generators, motorcycles, tricycles and laptops distributed to farmers, women and youths
  • Over 40 youths trained abroad in AI, Robotics, Cybersecurity, and dozens more on fully funded postgraduate scholarships to China, studying Medicine, MBA, and Technology

He was voted Best Senator of the Year in Constituency Projects in 2022 with 283,011 votes because his people see the work.

Senator Kalu does not come with sweet words. He comes with a report card. From PDP to PPA to APC, party colours changed, but his commitment to excellence never changed.

That is why Abia North must sustain this momentum. Performance deserves continuity. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has earned re-election to the Senate.
