2027: Ebem, Amaekpu, Other Ohafia Communities Back Orji Kalu’s Return to Senate

…Say re-election is their project, cite longstanding ties, performance

Communities in Ohafia South, Abia State, on Saturday backed the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his return to the Senate in 2027 as a project they were prepared to support.

The endorsements came as the Abia North senator continued his ward-to-ward tour, visiting Ebem, Elu, Nkwebi, Okagwe and Amaekpu communities.

At the various stops, community leaders cited Kalu’s relationship with Ohafia, his accessibility and projects attracted to the area as reasons for their position.

In Ebem, the President-General recalled the community’s years of friendship with the former Abia governor, saying the relationship had remained strong beyond election seasons.

The community also presented Kalu with a live goat through Mrs Ezinne Udo Udoma, Assistant State Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a gesture of goodwill.

At Okagwe, Chief Emeka Kalu Ukpai and Chief Ukpai Uduma Uguru commended the senator’s performance and urged him to sustain his interventions across the district.

Amaekpu also declared its support, with Chief Lucas Emeh Uche, who spoke for the community, saying the people were prepared to stand with Kalu in 2027.

Responding, Kalu thanked the communities for their confidence in him and promised to do more.

“I have known the people of Ohafia for many years and our relationship did not start today because of politics. We have been together through the years, and I consider Ohafia my home,” he said.

“I have come to give you an account of what we have done and also to hear directly from you about what still needs to be done. We have attracted roads and other projects to our communities, but I know there is still much more work ahead.

“I will continue to work for you and push for more projects and opportunities for our people. I will never take your confidence for granted, and I will never disappoint you.”

Kalu said the tour was also intended to keep him in direct contact with constituents and give residents an opportunity to assess his stewardship.

“For me, representation means being with the people. I must come home, sit with you, listen to you and understand what you need.

“Our politics should be about development and what we can do together for our people. That is the partnership I believe in — a partnership that works for all,” he said.

A major highlight at Amaekpu was the presentation of a car to the community’s youth leader, Ulu Nkata, by the APC candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Ukwa. Kalu formally presented the vehicle key to the beneficiary amid cheers from residents.

Other speakers during the tour included APC House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Nelson Destiny Uchechukwu; High Chief Uche Ogboso; and former council chairman, Barr. Emeka Kalu, PhD.

Also present were Hon. Ikechi Anya, Hon. George Nnanna Kalu, Prince Emma Nwosu, leaders of OUK Movement, Reality Organization, and other APC chieftains.

After the Amaekpu engagement, Kalu and his entourage were hosted by Nicholas Ukwa at his residence in Amaekpu Ohafia. Ukwa’s father joined his son in receiving Kalu and members of his team, bringing the day’s engagements in Ohafia South to a close.
