In the last 72 hours, various attempts have been made to denigrate the well thought out disposition of the Imo State Governor, Sen Hope Uzodimma to celebrate a Nigerian living legend of Imo extraction, Chief, Engr., Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo), who just turned 80!
The local attempt came from opposition elements in the State, who earnestly grope for a touch, and orgasmically latch on any semblance of one, to launch an attack on the Governor.
The latest, however, came from Rufai Oseni, the Google Map Journalist of Arise TV, famed for threatening to call a State Governor on LASTMA officials, who were on their legitimate duty.
Rufai took his attempt a dumb step forward by twisting the comments Gov. Hope Uzodimma made on camera, quoting out of context and perfectly blending it with some unverified stories he read.
Nothing can be further from the fact that Gov. Hope Uzodimma reiterated a clarion call he had made, elsewhere, for the Nigerian Government to give the Igbo man a chance to thrive.
He equally argued that the dismal outing of Ndigbo in the APC and PDP Presidential Primaries smacks of poor negotiation skills and dearth of in-house harmony.
How this rings in Rufai’s head as an attack on the Ndigbo speaks volume of the quality of the journalism practice he’s been enmeshed in.
We can all acknowledge that no region, in Nigeria, can win the Presidential election without proper negotiation with other regions and there’s no crime in asking that we should make peace with a place we call home, so that we can feel welcome in it.
