INEC Declares Primary Elections After May 30 Deadline Invalid
The Independent National Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission, has warned political parties that any primary elections conducted after its May 30 deadline will be considered invalid, pending the outcome of ongoing court appeals.
INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the commission will continue to operate under the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 while the matter is being determined at the Court of Appeal.
He advised political parties to strictly comply with existing electoral guidelines to avoid disqualification risks.
The warning comes amid conflicting court rulings involving Justice Mohammed Umar and Justice James Omotosho, which have raised legal debates over INEC’s powers to set election timetables.
