
Senator Orji Kalu Demonstrates Leadership as Senate Committee Demands Accountability from SEDC
In a strong demonstration of responsible leadership and commitment to transparent governance, Senator Orji today chaired an interactive oversight session of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), shortly after plenary.
The session, which involved the leadership of the Commission led by the Managing Director
Mark Okoye, focused on strengthening accountability, prudent financial management, and effective delivery of development programmes across the South East.
As part of the Senate Committee’s constitutional oversight responsibilities, Senator Orji requested comprehensive documentation relating to the Commission’s finances, procurement procedures, budget implementation, staff records, programmes, and compliance with the Federal Character Principle.
The move is another reflection of Senator Orji’s dedication to good governance and institutional accountability. His leadership style continues to attract commendation for prioritising transparency, due process, and responsible management of public resources.
Speaking during the session, Senator Orji emphasized that accountability and transparency remain essential in ensuring that development agencies fulfill their mandates effectively and deliver meaningful impact to the people.
The South East Development Commission subsequently undertook to provide detailed records of its expenditures and all requested documents at the Committee’s next sitting.
