Sen Orji Kalu Backs Proceeds of Crime Amendment Bill, Supports ₦403.1bn Police Trust Fund

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture by backing the passage of the Proceeds of Crime Act (Amendment) Bill and supporting the approval of ₦403.1 billion for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.

According to the former Abia State governor, the legislative measures are aimed at equipping security agencies to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities while promoting greater transparency in the management of assets recovered from unlawful activities.

Senator Kalu explained that the amendment to the Proceeds of Crime Act would establish an independent agency responsible for the recovery, preservation, management and transparent disposal of assets linked to criminal activities, ensuring accountability and public confidence in the process.

He also noted that the approved ₦403.1 billion allocation to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund would provide the Nigeria Police Force with critical resources, including modern equipment, improved infrastructure, operational logistics and enhanced training for personnel.

The senator said the initiatives would strengthen the capacity of the police to protect lives and property across the country and reinforce ongoing efforts to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Senator Kalu reiterated that investing in security institutions and strengthening legal frameworks remain essential to restoring public confidence and ensuring lasting peace and stability in the country.
