Nigeria Advances Sustainable Development with the Launch of BARECKS

Nigeria has once again demonstrated its leadership in Africa’s renewable energy landscape with the successful commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College (BARECKS) at CUSTECH, Osara, Kogi State.

Commissioned on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, by Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, the institution stands as a testament to the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to innovation, education, and sustainable development.

Driven by the vision of the Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi @itsengrmusty BARECKS is Africa’s first purpose-built institution dedicated exclusively to practical renewable energy education, research, and workforce development.

The College provides inclusive opportunities for Nigerians from every educational background while offering advanced facilities for solar technology, battery storage, mini-grid systems, wind energy, bioenergy, electric vehicle infrastructure, energy efficiency, and applied research.

The Commission remains grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON; Honourable Minister Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN; Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo; and every partner whose invaluable support continues to move Nigeria’s energy sector forward.
