Imo State Set To Perform First Robotic Assisted Surgery In Nigeria
Imo State is set to make medical history as the Imo Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, prepares to conduct its first robotic-assisted surgery on Friday, August 21, 2026.
The groundbreaking procedure, scheduled for the Imo Robotics and Oncology Centre (IROC), will be led by renowned Consultant Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Prof. Kingsley Ekwueme.
Governor Hope Uzodimma is expected to witness the historic operation, which marks another major step in his administration’s efforts to transform healthcare delivery and position Imo State as a destination for medical tourism.
