The US government has awarded a $125,000 grant to the Centre for Memories, an organisation that serves as a repository of Ndigbo history and culture, to support the digital documentation and physical preservation of the ancient Lejja iron-smelting site in Enugu.
According to a statement on Monday, the grant was awarded under the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). The project, titled “Nchekwaba: Lejja Iron-Smelting,” will support the conservation, three-dimensional digital documentation and physical preservation of the site.
