NUJ, South East honour Nigerian Horn Publisher, Bright Njoku, for touching lives
Charles Lamb (1775-1834) once wrote, “The greatest pleasure I know is to do a good action by stealth, and to have it found out by accident.”
That philosophical musing encapsulates the recent nomination by the Nigeria Union of Journalists Zone C (South East) already okayed by the Central Working Committee of the union in Abuja, Nigeria, to publicly appreciate the Chief Executive of Daily Nigerian Horn Newspapers Limited, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, High Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku, for his philanthropy and enhancing professionalism in the journalism profession.
In a letter availed the company, dated March 15, 2024, and signed by the vice president, of the Zone: Emmanuel Ifesinachi, a Knight of the Church and Justice of Peace, and the zonal secretary, Ezenwa Adiuku, respectively, and okayed by the national body, explains the reasons for the recognition.
“We wish to express our satisfaction with your sustained commitment to the welfare of journalists in the Southeast Zone.
“Your consistent support and interest in the promotion of professionalism and excellence in journalism, evident in your huge investments in the industry, surpasses expectations and has been noticed,” the letter says.
The professional body, therefore, doffed its hat for the newspaper administrator cum journalist.
“These efforts of yours towards the wellbeing of journalists in Imo State, in particular and the South East Geo-political Zone in general, are quite commendable.
“Noteworthy also, is your track record of beneficence and generous benefaction to humanity.
“These qualities and virtues informed your nomination for recognition by the NUJ, South East Zone.
“The nomination was subsequently ratified by the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the NUJ, Abuja….,” the letter further states.
The award is slated to take place in Awka, capital of Anambra State, at the ‘2024 NUJ, South East Media Summit/Awards, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024; at Hilton & Leisure Hotel; at 2:00 PM.
