Gov Uzodimma Seals Multi-partner Deal For Robotic Surgical Center, Specialist Hospital Management
The Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has signed a strategic partnership deal that will see the establishment of a Robotic Surgical Centre and improved management of specialist hospitals across the state.
The agreement, signed between the Imo State Government, Heartland Hospital Management Corporation Limited (HHMC), Prostate Clinic Limited, and IDCL Limited, marks a significant step toward advancing technology-based medical services in the region.
The initiative represents a new phase in healthcare modernization, particularly in specialized surgery. The Robotic Surgical Centre, expected to be spearheaded by Professor Kingsley Ekwueme, will introduce state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical procedures using DaVinci robotic systems, known globally for enhancing precision and reducing patient recovery time. Beyond offering clinical services, the centre is also expected to function as a training and research hub for medical professionals in Imo State and across Nigeria.
As outlined in the agreement, HHMC will steer hospital administration and clinical service coordination, while Prostate Clinic Limited and IDCL Limited will oversee technical aspects such as infrastructure development, robotic equipment acquisition, system installation, and ongoing specialist support.
The administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma reaffirmed that the partnership aligns with its broader vision of leveraging private-sector investment to strengthen healthcare delivery. The government also highlighted that the upcoming centre is expected to reduce outbound medical trips, create high-skill jobs, develop local medical expertise, and make Imo a destination for advanced medical procedures.
The government expressed satisfaction with the collaboration and pledged sustained support for initiatives that expand access to quality healthcare and contribute to the state’s socio-economic development.
