Media Statement From The Leadership Of The City Boy Movement On The Incident During The Owerri Empowerment Programme
The leadership and stakeholders of the City Boy Movement, South East Zone, after a careful and reflective appraisal of the events of Saturday, 14th March 2026 in Owerri, are compelled to respectfully address our invitees and the general public as follows:
- We acknowledge with deep concern the unfortunate incident that occurred during the empowerment programme, which resulted in disorder. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected and assure them that their personal welfare and business growth remain of great importance to us.
- It is important to state that the huge turnout and participation recorded at the event stand as an unprecedented early signal of the enthusiasm, resilience, and readiness of our people to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The massive turnout demonstrates the existence of a shared aspiration for inclusion, progress, and economic empowerment across the South East.
- We wish to reassure our teeming supporters that the empowerment programme held in Owerri is only one of many strategic interventions planned under the City Boy Movement. It is not a one-off event but part of a sustained and expanding effort aimed at reaching every nook and cranny of the South East in order to improve access to business support for our energetic young entrepreneurs.
- With respect to the vehicles, we have already initiated the necessary processes to ensure that they are delivered to the intended beneficiaries before midweek. In addition, we will explore appropriate ways to compensate individuals who officially attended from various states. Once a decision is reached, it will be duly communicated and implemented.
- Going forward, more robust, structured, and inclusive mechanisms will be implemented to ensure orderly participation, equitable distribution, and proper coordination in all forthcoming programmes.
- We therefore appeal to our people to remain calm, resolute, and focused. Let us not be distracted by negative narratives. Our vision remains clear and unwavering: that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ndi Igbo will take their rightful place in the central governance of our great nation, fully integrated as equal stakeholders in the Nigerian project.
- In this spirit, we reaffirm our commitment to continuous engagement, transparency, and improvement in all our programmes. We will learn, adapt, and grow stronger in service to our people.
Thank you.
Signed:
Obinna Iyiegbu
