Ngwoma Obube Rejects External Infiltration And Interference In Community Leadership, Insists On Ephraim Anuforo As President General
The Elders, Members of Eze -in Council and the entire people of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community wish to condemn in strong terms the invasion and intrusion into the internal affairs of their Community by certain persons masquerading as representatives of the Ministry of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, Owerri North Local Government Council, DSS Owerri North and DPO Agbala, whose mission was to cause confusion, disaffection, misinformation and bad blood.
We totally reject this illicit process through which they attempted to impose a surrogate of Mr Alex Mbata and Chinedu Ekeocha,one Power Akwazie as the President General.Their sinister plot to hijack Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community leadership by proxy was abortive and will never see the light of the day because the people know their rights.
This premeditated script meant to truncate the legitimate Town Union leadership under Mr Ephraim Anuforo began to unfolded on Thursday evening being 14th May 2026 when a Town Crier on the prompting of the Secretary of Owerri North Local Government Council went round the Community to announce that Owerri North Local Government Council was coming to Ngwoma Obube and that the people should gather.
The people were not informed of the purpose of the visit.It was absurd because that has not been the channel of communication with relevant government Agencies.
On the appointed day being Friday 15th May 2026, barely 12 hours after the announcement, Ngwoma people gathered and were astonished, and to their chargrin saw the presence of the Secretary to the Council, Owerri North DSS Officer, Divisional Police Officer at Agbala, and a purported representative of the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and they really wondered the purpose of this intrusion!
The intruders informed Ngwoma people that the Governor had dissolved all the President Generals in Imo State and they were in the Community to conduct a fresh election.This sparked instant reaction and rejection from the members of the Community whose unanimous response was that they never invited anybody to come and supervise or conduct election for their Town Union President hence there is no vacancy as their incumbent President,Mr Ephraim Anuforo’s tenure has not elapsed and there was no basis for their coming.
The Community was not properly informed of why they were coming and there was no adequate preparation for anything like election.So why the surprise and imposition of elections?
Ngwoma people reinforced their position by saying that they would nominate Ephraim Anuforo again if his office had been dissolved.The socalled officials declined the position of the community and said that all candidates must be present and since Ephraim Anuforo was not there that he could not be a candidate.
The people insisted that the election won’t hold and this disagreement stalled their mission and no election held. However, to the surprise of the Community, shortly after the aborted plot, the Amafor Village suddenly bursted into the celebration of one Power Akwazie as if he is the newly elected President General. And that is a blatant falsehood and joke of the Century BECAUSE NO ELECTION TOOK PLACE!
Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community rejects this medieval style of intimidation, colonisation and disrespect to the rights of the people to decide their fate.This kangaroo arrangement and intrusion is highly provocative, unacceptable and we take the blames of this affront and attempted obstruction of a functional Community leadership to Alex Mbata, Engr Chinedu Ekeocha and Power Akwazie who are trying to destabilize and disenfranchise the people of Ngwoma Obube Autonomous Community.
We, therefore call on the Executive Governor of Imo State and the Commissioner of Police to call these trouble makers to order. It is also necessary for relevant Agencies of the Government to enlighten some of their compromised staff that there is a limit to official intimidation, especially at this modern era when people know their rights and obligations.
No government Agency could invade a community without prior notice, discussion, agreements or solicitation and talk of an election.It is Community that should apply to the Government Agency for approval and to come and supervise their elections and not otherwise.In this case:who invited the Council, the Ministry and the Security Agencies? At whose instance were they in the Community if not on illegal duty?
It is unfortunate that the Ministry of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs which has been able to respond to the enquiry of the Imo State Commissioner of Police over who the authentic President General of the Community deemed it convenient to go through the backdoor to plot a kangaroo election as a way of providing answer to a harmless enquiry.
Ngwoma has a functional Town Union President General, Mr Ephraim Anuforo whose tenure has not elapsed and in very strong terms,we say no to this undue interference and intimidation to please a cabal led by Alex Mbata.
