Tweeps Accuse NIDCOM Boss Of Profiling Nigerians In Indonesia

Some Twitter users have accused the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa of profiling the community of Nigerians living in Indonesia.

It all started on Monday when Dabiri-Erewa threw more light on an incident at an Indian university involving Nigerian students and others of African descent.

In the comment section, a tweep identified as #sensegiver1 replied, “She should go to Indonesia and see how Nigerians are treated. Mumu (slang for foolish) woman supporting a failed government. She’s equally part of the failure. Eye service!”

Responding to the tweet, Dabiri-Erewa said, “Ode! You go to Indonesia, carry drugs, do cultism, and come begging to be rescued from death sentence . Thank God for NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) now saving people like you from death row.”

The first part of her tweet has continued to generate knocks with some tweeps accusing her of reinforcing a negative stereotype of Nigerians in Indonesia.

A tweep, Blessed said, “Since you’re playing hide-and-seek with honesty, the problem is that a govt official profiled all Nigerians in Indonesia as drug peddlers & cultists & retweeted a tweet calling Igbos Nyamiri.”

Mazi Gomez tweeted, “You think anyone cares you called him Ode? You just called all Nigerians in Indonesia drug peddlers and cultists. Seems you don’t know the gravity of your tweet. Always keep your emotions in check, Madam diplomat.”

Broadcaster, Fola Afolayan said, “The one person whose job it is to protect Nigerians in the diaspora & facilitate relationships with the international community just stereotyped the community of Nigerians living in Indonesia because she was personally insulted. A stereotype she should be working hard to dispel.”

Ridden Oke tweeted, “She doesn’t get the point. If you had called him mumu, it’s a different thing. You stereotyped the citizens you’re expected to plead their cause to the International Community. Next time you want to act on their behalf, the countries will direct you to this tweet.”
