The Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, on Thursday 3rd November 202 declared Rt. Hon. Ozurigbo Ugonna the winner of the May 25th, 2022 Primary for Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency of the Peoples Democratic Party in affirmation of a decision earlier held by the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo State.
It will be recalled that the Federal High Court, Owerri, had on 30th August 2022 affirmed Rt. Hon. Ugonn Ozurigbo as the duly nominated Reps candidate of the PDP, in a matter brought by his opponent at the primaries, Mr. Kingsley Echendu.
Mr. Echendu had approached the courts, sequel to the May 25th Reps Primaries to contest the party membership status of his opponent, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo whom he alleged was not eligible to stand for nomination. The matter did not stand at the High Court, as the court affirmed the nomination of the Hon. Ozurigbo.
Again, the trial Judge, at the appeal Court, in reaffirming the eligibility of Hon. Ozurigbo to stand for nomination held that the issue of membership of a political party is purely an internal matter of a political party.
Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, a former Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly is the current member representing Nkwerre/ Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is seeking re-election.
