The immediate past Chief of Staff Abia State Government Chief. Okey Ahaiwe emerges Abia PDP Governorship Candidate.
The primary election was held at Umuahia Township Stadium. Announcing the results , Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the chairman of the Abia State PDP Governorship Primaries said Chief. Okechukwu Ahaiwe polled a total of 469 votes to defeat his closest rilvals which includes, Abia State Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. sir Ude Oko Chukwu who polled 12 votes and Mayor Lucky Igbokwe who polled 12 votes. Others include; Chief Sampson 11 votes, and Emma Nwaka who scored 0.
Chief Okey Ahaiwe hails from Umuire Eziama Ntigha in Isiala-Ngwa North LGA of Abia State. The primary election was held due to the death of Late Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne, the former party Governorship flagbearer in Abia State.
