Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency at the House of Representatives, has called for more funding of the Presidential Amnesty Programme Cooperative Scheme.
Speaking on the budget presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he noted that while the reintegration of former agitators was successful, the Cooperative Scheme which was initiated to support those who were reintegrate to help them set up businesses has not been adequately funded.
Continuing, Hon Ozurigbo stated that asides the running cost usually made available for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, there is need for improved funding for the Cooperative scheme especially as the Federal Government according to the budget presented on Wednesday looks to improve crude production.
The House Committee Chairman on Niger Delta further noted that the success of the Presidential Amnesty Programme has led to stability in the Niger Delta which will only be sustained if more support is given to the Niger Delta through improved funding for the scheme.
The lawmaker also expressed excitement on the scheduled reopening of the PortHarcourt and Warri Refinery which he noted will be of utmost advantage to the people of the Niger Delta as well as reduce dependence on imported refined products.
