He is a Nigerian Catholic prelate who has served as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, Enugu State Nigeria, since 2013.

He is widely recognized as a world-class scholar, a professor of philosophy, and an influential intellectual leader.
BIOGRAPHY & EDUCATION
Early Life:
Born on August 18, 1956, in Imilike-Ani, Udenu, Enugu State Nigeria.
Academic Background:
He pursued his seminary and philosophical studies in Nigeria before attending the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, where he earned a doctorate in philosophy and became a professor.
Priestly Ordination:
July 28, 1984 ordained for the Diocese of Enugu by the late Bishop Michael U. Eneja and was later incardinated into the Diocese of Nsukka.
Incardination:
November 19, 1990 into the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.
Career in Rome:
Before his appointment as bishop, he served as the Vice-Rector of the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.
Vatican Service:
He has worked as an expert (peritus) for the Synod of Bishops at the Vatican.

Bishop Onah is a highly sought-after lecturer and public speaker, heavily focusing on the intersection of faith, culture, and societal development in Nigeria.
He has notably served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Councils for Veritas University in Abuja and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

Pope Francis appointed him as the Bishop of Nsukka on April 14, 2013, making him the first bishop appointed during Pope Francis’s pontificate.
He was officially installed on July 4, 2013. Known for his profound intellect and pastoral compassion, he continues to lead the diocese with a strong emphasis on maintaining moral integrity, societal justice, and the deep theological significance of the sacraments.
