History was made on Tuesday 15thDecember, 2015, in Douglas House, Owerri, as the staff of Imo state Government celebrated their Christmas party in style.
This party is the first of its kind, with the arrival of the young dynamic, hardworking and staff-friendly chief of staff of the Imo state Government House, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. It will be recalled that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu made his mark as the commissioner for Lands, survey and Urban Development, mainly because of his ability to bring out the best in the staff of the ministry, through maximum motivation. It is a well known fact that in an atmosphere of good staff motivation, there is healthy competition that breeds optimum performance among members of staff which a good employer can explore.
This sort of competition spur members of staff to be punctual to work always, dedicated to duty, polite to people they interface with, daily, as well as maintain good relationship among themselves, aware of the fact that it is a race, and the big brother is watching and waiting to reward the best of bests.
Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, Chief of Staff, Imo state Government House |
We are grateful to His Excellency, Owelle (Dr.) Rochas Okorocha (OON) for appointing this rare gem, to man the office of the Chief of staff, at this time, as this is a clear testimony of his proven track record of achievement as commissioner for Lands, survey, and Urban Development.
As the government house staff marked their Christmas party, the overall best performing staff for the year 2015, A police officer, Sergeant Blessing, smiled home with a Brand new car in addition to a cash prize of one million Naira, donated by the Governor himself. Other winners include, the runner up, an attendant, who smiled home with a tricycle (keke) and a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira. The third best, a driver, smiled home with a motorcycle and a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira. The fourth best, a gardener, smiled home with a 42” inch LCD TV and a cash prize of one hundred naira while the fifth but not the least, a cheff, also smiled home with a deep freezer and a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira, only. Apart from the top five winners from various departments, 20 others from various departments also got a cash prize of twenty thousand naira each and each winner was handed an award plaque. There were many other consolation prices.
It is no gainsaying the fact that the family and friends of these workers will also share in the joy which is sure to have a multiplier effect. This is a sign that the Chief of staff believes in the what the good book says in the Gospel of Luke Chapter 10 verse 7, “A labourer deserves his wages”.
We thank God for giving us a Governor like His Excellency, Owelle (Dr.) Rochas Okorocha, the grand commander of free education in Nigeria and his chief of staff, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu who derives joy in touching the lives of the people in the state and the country at large. No wonder Ugwumba Uche Nwosu was in 2014, honoured, in the federal capital territory, Abuja, as the best commissioner for lands, survey and Urban development in Nigeria. He is also an award recipient of the best workers-friendly commissioner, by the Nigerian Labour Congress, in 2014, among others. This is the feat he has come to replicate as chief of staff to the Governor of Imo state. We urge all staff to take advantage of the morale booster to sit up and be the best in their various departments. Whom the cap fits, let him wear it.
To God be the Glory.
Merry Christmas, ndi Imo.
Signed: Onwuka Vivien (Mrs)
