5 states in Nigeria most IJGBs visited for Detty December
December is that festive season filled with travel and excitement, as IJGBs (I Just Got Backs) return to the country in droves for the much-anticipated Detty December celebrations.
Recent data states the impact of this annual event on Nigeria’s economy, particularly through its appeal to Nigerians in the diaspora.
A study conducted by advisory firm MO Africa Company Limited revealed that between November 19 and December 26 last year, Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) recorded approximately 550,000 inbound passengers.
Nearly 90% of these were Nigerians living abroad, primarily visiting for leisure and tourism.
According to Kayode Omosebi, CEO of MO Africa Company Limited, the survey analysed data from hotels, airports, short-let agents, and nightclubs to compile its findings.
IJGBs primarily traveled from countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, and South Africa.
The most preferred states included:
- Lagos
- Edo
