Gov Uzodimma Commissions Orashi15MVA Injection Substation, Signals New Era In Imo Power Supply
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has commissioned the Orashi 15MVA, 33/11KV Injection Substation, marking a major milestone in the state’s drive toward sustainable and decentralized power supply.
The substation, constructed by Orashi Electricity Company with technical support from Madkor, an Egyptian engineering firm, represents a significant step in translating the state government’s energy vision into reality.
In his address, Governor Uzodimma expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the project and thanked President Tinubu for signing the Electricity Act into law in 2023, which empowers states to participate actively in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. He also appreciated the President for approving the transfer of the Egbema Power Plant to Imo State.
The governor described the commissioning as the first phase of the “Light Up Imo” project, declaring it the beginning of liberation from epileptic power supply to a more sustainable electricity system. He said the project signals a shift from a generator-dependent economy to one driven by reliable public power supply.
He also charged host communities to take ownership of the project by jealously protecting the facilities and infrastructure.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister of State Power, Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu described the project as a defining shift in Nigeria’s electricity landscape. He noted that Imo State is the 11th electricity distribution area in the country and commended Governor Uzodimma for laying a strong foundation for development and economic growth through power sector reforms.
The commissioning is expected to enhance energy access, stimulate industrial growth, and improve the overall quality of life for residents of Imo State.
