Gov. Hope Uzodimma Assents To Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act

His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma has signed into law the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act VAPP today in the presence of Her Excellency, Barr (Mrs) Chioma Uzodimma who has championed the enactment of this very law in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in our society.

This Act which is an improvement on the penal and criminal code in relation to violence, seek to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices, discrimination against persons and to provide maximum protection and effect remedies for victims and punishment for offenders.

Having been assented to by the Executive Governor of Imo State the bill, now an Act, becomes a Law of Imo State and as such, enforceable on offenders. This milestone achievement advocated by the First Lady of Imo State through the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, would tackle and eliminate to the bearest minimum all sorts of violence against humanity.
