Gov. Uzodimma Seeks Presidential Approval For Upgrading FMC Owerri To Teaching Hospital And Alvan Ikoku College To A Federal University

The Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma in his quest for academic excellence for Ndi Imo, has got Presidential nod for a University Teaching Hospital for the Medical Students of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and the full take over of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education by the Federal Government.

Briefing Presidential Villa Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Governor Uzodimma disclosed that the plan is to upgrade the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Owerri to Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri which will be made available for the maintenance and management of the Medical School approved by National University Commission (NUC).

The Governor further stated that Mr President has also given a nod to look into the conversion of Alvan Ikoku college of education to Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education which was suspended in 2015. This is following the institution’s compliance with the requisite requirements by the National University Commission (NUC).
