Alvan Ikoku Varsity VC Prof Stella Lemchi Participates In JAMB Inclusive Education and Artificial Intelligence Programme

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi, represented Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education at the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group’s National Engagement on Inclusive Higher Education and Artificial Intelligence held at NUC headquarters recently.
One of the highlights of the programme was the unveiling of a book in honour of the outgoing JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede.
It was also a proud moment for our University as the book prominently featured a chapter co-authored by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Ngozi Lemchi and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Michael Olugbenga Ajileye.
The book titled, “A Peep into the Future of Higher Education in Nigeria“, is a compendium of seminal contributions by notable Professors and scholars across the nation, with the Foreword written by former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Vice-Chancellor and her Deputy (Academic) co-authored Chapter 3 entitled “From Brain-Drain to Brain-Gain: Institutionalising Circular Diaspora Migration in Nigerian Higher Education.” The chapter argues that the constant emigration of academic staff from Nigerian universities (termed “brain-drain”), which has hitherto been perceived as a negative phenomenon could also offer some potential benefits for the Nigerian tertiary education system. The authors proffer a new positive perspective on academic migration with a proposed model known as Circular Diaspora Academic Migration, which would involve Nigerian universities engaging diaspora scholars in teaching, research, students supervision, curricula development, and programmed mentorship of both local staff and students through a combination of virtual engagements and periodic in-person interactions. Professor Lemchi and her Deputy are convinced that this practical and scalable model will help transform what they termed “academic mobility” from a symbol of loss into a fulcrum for institutional renewal.
The Alvan Community congratulates our dear Vice-Chancellor and her Deputy for being a part of this landmark publication which takes a bold peep into the future of higher education in Nigeria.
