Why Kalu’s Support for President Tinubu Earns Him Respect at Home and Abroad
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is a name most Nigerians know. He started as a businessman, became governor of Abia State, and today he represents Abia North in the Senate.
Over the years he has built a reputation around hard work, public service, and speaking his mind. Lately, his open support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has gotten people talking, especially now that the country is dealing with tough economic and security issues that need leaders to work together.
Kalu has not hidden his confidence in President Tinubu. Since 2023, he has kept telling Nigerians to give the administration time. He says many of the reforms are painful now, but they are meant to build something stronger for the future. From his view, fixing the economy and improving security will not happen overnight. It will take patience and sacrifice from all of us.
One big reason he backs the President is unity. Kalu often says Nigeria can only move forward when leaders from different regions, faiths, and ethnic groups pull in the same direction. Coming from the South-East, his support is also seen as a way to push for more inclusion of his region in national decisions. He believes the South-East deserves a bigger seat at the table, and working with the federal government is one way to get there.
He also respects Tinubu’s experience. In Kalu’s words, the President understands politics and governance, and that kind of knowledge matters when you are trying to solve complex problems. That is why Kalu keeps urging Nigerians to look beyond short-term pain and focus on long-term stability.
Back in Abia, people respect Kalu for what he did as governor from 1999 to 2007. He pushed projects in roads, schools, hospitals, and business. Opinions will always differ about any leader, but many Abians agree he put the state on the map. Even after leaving office, he has stayed close to communities through scholarships, small business support, and other forms of help. People remember that he assisted them regardless of party or background, and that loyalty has kept him relevant.
His respect goes beyond Abia and Nigeria. As a businessman, he built companies in media, manufacturing, shipping, and trade that reached other countries. Those years in business taught him how to talk with global investors and institutions, and he still uses that to promote Nigeria abroad. At conferences and meetings overseas, he makes the case for Nigerian opportunities and tries to attract real investment.
What also stands out is his resilience. Kalu has faced political fights, court cases, and heavy public criticism. Through all of that he stayed active in business and politics. His supporters see that as strength, proof that he does not quit easily.
He has a direct way of speaking too. He does not dress up his words when talking about the economy, security, or politics. Some people like it, some don’t, but everyone knows where he stands. In the Senate, he keeps pushing for policies that grow the economy, create jobs, and improve infrastructure. He argues that local industries need support and the environment has to be friendly for investors.
Part of his influence is how he connects with people. He has friends and allies across parties and regions. That wide network helps him move conversations forward both in Abuja and outside Nigeria. He also gives back. Through donations, health support, and help for vulnerable groups, many families have felt his impact directly.
As Nigeria works through its current challenges, Kalu remains one of the loudest voices backing President Tinubu. For him, it is not about party. It is about the belief that leaders must cooperate if the country will progress. Whether in politics, business, or charity work, he keeps shaping how people think about Nigeria’s future.
